SEDC Engaging in the Region
New Hampshire residents across the state have seen the harm done by the Opioid Crisis. Many know coworkers, family members, and friends who have been impacted in one way or another by this crisis.
In our efforts to positively impact the workforce of our region, we are currently engaged with treatment and recovery centers in Strafford County. Our goal is to support organizations providing treatment and recovery to those experiencing Substance Use Disorder, restoring them to the workforce.

What is SUD?
"Substance use disorders occur when the recurrent use of alcohol and/or drugs causes clinically and functionally significant impairment, such as health problems, disability, and failure to meet major responsibilities at work, school, or home" (US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2018).

An American Epidemic
The United States is currently experiencing the "Opioid Epidemic". In Fall of 2017, President Trump acknowledged this crisis by declaring it a public health emergency. This acknowledgement coupled with current legislative efforts in the US House and Senate, are anticipated to result in the allocation of additional federal funds for recovery and treatment organizations across the country.
Due to the rapid increase in the population of those in need of treatment, capacity and infrastructure across the country are lacking to appropriately address this crisis and treat everyone who's afflicted in a timely manner. This leaves many seeking treatment on waiting lists for programs. Without comprehensive treatment and recovery care for those with SUD, death rates across the country continue to rise.
